UPDATE: Important roadworks information

A120 eastbound between Stansted Junction and Dunmow West Interchange – maintenance work

 

Maintenance work on the A120 eastbound between Stansted Junction and Dunmow West Interchange. This work includes resurfacing the road, refreshing road markings, replacing worn road studs, also known as cat’s eyes, and upgrading roadside technology.

 

Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother and more clearly marked road. The upgraded technology will also help us monitor our network, manage traffic flows and keep drivers informed so they can travel safely.

 

We plan to complete this work over two weekend nights on Saturday 25 July and Sunday 26 July 2026 overnight between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

 

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, A120 eastbound between Stansted Junction and Dunmow West Interchange will be closed traffic diverted as follows:

​

• Drivers travelling eastbound on the A120 from Priory Wood Roundabout or Bassingbourn Roundabout should exit onto Thremhall Avenue

• Continue on Thremhall Avenue to Birchanger Green Roundabout

• At Birchanger Green Roundabout, take the first exit onto the B1256

• Continue on the B1256 through Takeley to Dunmow West Interchange

• From Dunmow West Interchange, drivers can rejoin the A120 eastbound or use the local road network
